What you'll learn in this course

Functional Breathing

The physiology behind natural breathing processes as the foundation for physical and mental health. What are the peculiarities of biochemistry and respiratory mechanics, especially in relation to activating breathing exercises?
Based on the insights of Dr. Buteyko, we examine breathing from a different perspective. Rounded off with valuable exercises, we expand your individual horizon.

Risk Management

Breathing exercises that involve increased breathing over an extended period (hyperventilation) pose health risks related to changes in our biochemistry. I will show you strategies and methods for relieving the nervous system. This way, you can safely and risk-free conduct your breathing exercises with your groups. I will show you multiple ways (my best practices) to safely guide participants going through intensive processes.

Nervous System

I will show you various models to illustrate the arousal state of our nervous system. With insights from the Polyvagal Theory and a focus on the Vagus Nerve, you can plan and conduct future breathing sessions to pursue a specific goal. Just as your participants currently need or desire.

Responsibility as a Role Model

As Breathwork Facilitator, you always take on a role model position for your participants and the visitors of your digital offerings (social media, website). You will learn how to take on this role responsibly and what to consider regarding the demonstration of your personal breathing or cold practice, ensuring that curious individuals and interested parties do not suffer harm.

Intensive breathwork sessions offer various benefits, but there is always the risk of health deterioration when careless applied.

Holistic Breathwork Sessions

Buteyko vs. WHM (or any other intensive breathing methods)

Often, especially among Buteyko practitioners, one may not find favorable words for hyperventilating breathing exercises. However, in nature, many dual principles coexist. For me, these two very different approaches certainly have their justification – as long as they are combined correctly.

To help you achieve that, this training covers everything about the physiological backgrounds and peculiarities of our breathing and how closely it indeed is connected to our nervous system. The insights of Dr. Buteyko form the foundation for much of this information.

Why are activating breathing exercises advantageous (and when should one refrain from them)? How can one intentionally activate the individual stages of the nervous system, and how can you design your own breathing sessions to provide participants with the most value?

You will also gain the necessary know-how to prevent the possibility of participants experiencing a decline in health through your guided breathing sessions.

Your Coach

Stefan Völker

Stefan is a passionate human being who follows his heart and intuition. Many years ago, he felt a strong urge to explore the path of breath training. What began as a means to combat chronic stress has become a central pillar in his life.

With his training as a nurse in 1996, Stefan gained a deep understanding of human physiology and the autonomic nervous system, laying the foundations for his current work.

Stefan collaborated with dozens of other breath trainers from various fields. He values working with athletes, leaders, firefighters, first responders, and anyone striving for peak performance.

2018 he immersed himself in the Wim Hof Method (quite literally), completing the training to become a Wim Hof Method Instructor. He is also a instructor for the Buteyko Method, Oxygen Advantage, and a "Breathwork Professional."
He is also a movement teacher following Liebscher & Bracht.

Stefan assists individuals looking to enhance their quality of life, health, and stress resilience, offering individual coaching, group sessions, team-building events, regular breathing sessions, and multi-day retreats. And most likely you'll find him during these activities playing his handpan.

Procedure and certificate

Technical details

In three online lectures, each lasting about 120 minutes (plus a one-hour Q&A session), you will gain valuable and practically applicable additional knowledge from the fields of Buteyko and Oxygen Advantage, the Polyvagal Theory, the Vagus Nerve, and much more.

The training takes place online, using the computer program "Microsoft Teams." I deliberately do not use the perhaps more well-known platform "Zoom". Data protection and data security are of high importance to me. Therefore, I use "Microsoft Teams," which fully complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO). This program is available for practically every modern operating system (Windows, Mac, and iOS) and can also be operated directly through a modern browser.

For optimal results, I recommend using headphones. After each lecture, a corresponding script will be sent via email.

After participating in all four sessions, you will receive a certificate, distinguishing yourself from other instructors/trainers with the newly acquired knowledge.

In the weeks following the training, you will have the opportunity to engage in a specific Telegram group moderated by Stefan, where you can exchange ideas on the topic and clarify any questions.
